Born and raised in Arvada, Colorado, Steve graduated from Arvada West High School in 1987. Steve started his career in the fire service with the Arvada Fire Department in 1988 and became an EMT, Haz-Mat Tech. In 1991, Steve moved to Memphis, Tn., where he worked for Shelby County Fire Department in many different capacities such as FF/EMT, Driver, and as LT when needed.
He was well trained in all aspects of the Fire/Ems service and a member of TNTF1 until his departure in 2006. During his time in Tennessee, Steve also worked for Methodist Hospital in Germantown, TN. As an Emergency Tech, he was trained in emergency medicine and in pediatric care from LeBonheur Hospital, and became an instructor for CPR, ACLS, and PALS. During his time as a firefighter, Steve competed and medaled in the World Police & Fire Games in Colorado Springs, Co., Melbourne Australia, and Calgary Canada in Tug-o war, Cross Country and Freestyle wrestling. Steve also was a fierce competitor in the Firefighter Combat Challenge and was ranked nationally. In 2003, he competed in the “World’s Toughest Firefighter” in Paris, France where he earned a very respectable top 20 finish. Looking for new opportunities in his career, Steve relocated to Hernando, MS. In 2006, where he worked for Hernando Police Department, and was an instructor for IPMBA, teaching officers in Police Bicycle courses. He was also an instructor for other certifications including ASAP Baton training. As a Sergeant on the night patrol unit and leader of the department’s Bicycle Patrol Unit, Steve was able to design, create, and administer a bicycle safety program for the City of Hernando, called the Hernando Police Safety Village which was transported all over the mid-south to help teach youth and adults alike, bicycle safety. In 2016, Steve stepped away from Law Enforcement and worked for St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room in Memphis, TN. as an Emergency Room Technician. In 2018, Steve became employed by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Steve was promoted to Sergeant and then to Lieutenant and serves as a night patrol shift supervisor. Steve is the department’s only certified Hostage Negotiator and serves on the SWAT team as an operator and as the team’s SWAT Medic. Steve has vast experience in both the Fire Service and Law Enforcement has spent many years training in several different areas of expertise. Steve also has had his share of involvement of several high stress incidents in both the Fire Department as well as in Law Enforcement. Eager to help train in both services, Steve has 27 years of service in EMS, fire, law enforcement and is eager to assist today’s Law Enforcement Officer as well as All First Responders.
