"Digital Evidence-From Crime to Court"

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  

This course is designed to give the law enforcement professional the necessary skills to effectively manage digital evidence. This course will give the student a comprehensive overview of dealing with digital evidence from the time it is discovered on scene until the case is ultimately taken to trial. It will discuss what digital evidence is, how to properly seize it, what is involved in the imaging and analysis of various devices and how to properly prepare to testify in court.

  • Device Imaging and Analysis

  • Understanding the Digital Report and Key Information

  • Court Preparation and Testimony

  • Imaging and Analysis Demonstration

  • Student Exercises in the Lab

     

INSTRUCTIONAL GOAL:  

To provide the patrol officer, detective and forensic personnel with the knowledge to properly recognize and seize digital evidence. The student will gain a better understanding of what to look for and some of the legal issues and pitfalls in dealing with Digital Evidence. The Instructor will demonstrate how various devices are imaged and analyzed so that the student has a better understanding of how this process works. A review of how to get the most from a digital report and how to properly prepare for court will be given to aid in the successful prosecution of a variety of cases. Information presented will be reinforced through demonstrations and practical exercises.
